This mat replaced my pathetically ancient yoga mat that had fallen victim to my cats. I used it for the first time in a class (no time for a test run at home!), and it was so slip-proof that I had trouble correcting my stances at first (sliding a foot slightly to the left, etc.) but I think it's helped my practice a ton since I no longer have to concentrate on not slipping! I sweat a ton too, and no troubles there either. Yes, it does smell really odd...I would suggest avoiding leaving it in your car on a hot day before washing it, but after I washed it and hung it up, the smell is less noticeable.

This is a thin rubber mat, not too stretchy like some out there. Surface has an almost fabric like quality with a non-slip solid grounded feel to it. I am on this thing several times a day and am really digging it. Yum-yum as far as yoga mats go. They have a thicker one if you need more cush, but I like a firm surface for just about everything. The colors are saturated and rich. I have Denim, Camo, and Acai - all dreamy.

- Great, stay-put matI originally purchased a cheaper mat and discovered that all yoga mats are not created equal. The cheap mat rolled up with every movement I made, resulting in me fighting with it the entire class vs me really enjoying the flow. I finally caved and spent the extra money on a Manduka (the eKO) and it's a world of a difference. It stays put, while not being slippery - I move, not the mat (the way it should be!).

The only cons I noticed are the distinct natural rubber odor (which the packaging clearly recognizes and says will dissipate over time). I would note that it is definitely not as 'stinky' as synthetic rubber options out there. The other slight con would be that the padding is not very thick, which I don't mind but it's a personal preference.

Overall a great purchase, one I should have made from the beginning.

- Excellent quality, best for travelAlthough this mat is still a bit heavy considering how thin it is, that's because it's actually a quality mat -- unlike the super-light foam ones that quickly fall apart -- and it's still far better to carry to and fro than the original Manduka mat which weighs a ton and hardly fits in my mat bag. It's fine on a thin carpet or wood floor (if you don't need much padding) but on a thicker carpet this mat would definitely bunch up. It is nice and grippy right out of the box and -- call me strange -- I sort of like the rubber smell. It's kind of "rubber meets incense" somehow. All in all, great for travel but if you're looking for something to use everyday at home, get the black mat or the thicker eco-friendly mat.

This mat is exactly everything yoga mat needed, I just had to hand wash it a bit right after I got it because of course, there wasn't too much traction on a brand new mat. Brand new mats need to be worn down a bit until they're slip free. Next concern was the odor of the mat, not foul at all and barely there but if you do smell the odor, it's completely bearable. I think it'll be a long while until I have to get a new mat. I'm happy I found this quality mat within my price range after looking through countless mats and I also really liked the mountain as far as design goes.

I bought this product for me and my wife to use for her new workout kick. I normally review only item that I am into to, but for the price I was blow away with what I got. My neighbor has a Gaiam mat she got at Dicks and paid 10 bucks more for and the mat feels cheaper and thinner than mine(maybe not the best they make). It seems that I got a great mat at a crazy price, my wife uses it daily(me less), but we both enjoy it for it's tacky feel, and that it has just enough cushion without feeling soggy.

I purchased this mat for my wife as she was getting tired of her old mat, which was to thin and not long enough for her needs. She practices yoga on a daily basis, so I wanted to get her something decent. I came upon this Black Mountain Products yoga mat which had all the specifications I was looking for. The mat is very long and is quite thick. My wife has been using the mat for awhile now and she really enjoys it. She has had no slip issues and likes the extra cushion it provides. I have also used the mat myself on occasion doing various workouts and have found it very useful and will be purchasing another for my exercise routines. It's a mat! This is a standard mat, with a peace-sign/earth logo on it. I didn't find it to be too slippery, but maybe I have better dexterity than others, or do simpler postures.

Quality mat for Bikram. I have been using this mat for about 8 months (3-5x week) for practicing Bikram yoga. Since I always have towels over the mat, the slickness issue mentioned in another review has not been a problem for me. I've been pleased with its durability and its resistance to sweat.

I had originally purchased one of the many cheap mats that can be found at sporting goods stores or discount outlets, and have found the Gaiam model to be much superior. It is denser foam, which provides a bit more of a cushion despite being the same thickness, and it is much easier to clean due to its glossy surface. Also, the cheap mat was ruined in about three months. The Gaiam is still going strong -- I think it should last at least a year, probably longer.

I have been practicing Yoga for about two months and after doing some research purchased two of these mats.They did not have the odor problem that some mats seemed to have when new and I slipped only very slightly the first time that I used them. Four classes later they are perfect. The thickness is just about right for me and I am a Medicare eligible man so they should work well for you.

This is my first yoga mat, so take that into account here. I got the green/beige mat, which has a very natural look to it. It is usable right out of the plastic, as opposed to those you have to wash and then air out for a week before use.
The only slightly negative thing I have to say is the amount of stickiness to the mat. It is good, for sure, but in downward dog, when my hands get a little sweaty, I find them slipping. But this may be just me.

Overall, I find it to be a great mat and certainly worth the $17 I paid for it.

Small,great for travel and hot yoga mat. I bought this mat to take along with me on a cruise, and it was perfect. I used it in my cabin room, and on the ship deck. It can be folded up like a tshirt in your luggage. It is pretty thin, but grips whatever surface you place it on without moving around like a towel would.

I have yet to try and wash it, but can't imagine it would be an issue. It folds in half nicely in case you do not have as much room, but would still like to use the mat for an ab workout.

Love this mat. Just received my mat a week ago and though I've only used it a few times, I love it! I can tell that it is extremely durable - I doubt I will ever need to cash in on the lifetime guarantee (my yoga instructor has had her Manduka mat for over 8 years and it's still going strong!). It was a bit slippery at first (though not anywhere near the slip-and-slide analogy that some have used to describe it), but I've been letting it lay out in the summer sun per my yoga teachers instructions for the past few days and I can tell that it's getting stickier (and should continue to get more so with use). Apparently the sun helps break down the film on the top of the mat and helps to break it in. The cushioning is great, and the extra length is wonderful!

My only complaint would be that I ordered the mat with next day shipping to arrive on Friday and the mat didn't arrive until Monday morning. However, Amazon was prompt to issue me a refund of the shipping price, so I can't complain too much. Also, the packaging of the mat was very good - sturdy, and well sized (unlike the 72 inch mat I ordered for a friend - the box it arrived in was far too large and wasteful).

Overall, I'm very pleased with this purchase and I'd be willing to bet that anyone else looking to further their yoga practice will be too.

Beautiful print and perfect for yoga and fitness. I use to own this mat and put it through a lot of use, at least 3-5x a week of yoga classes (all sorts, vinyasa/ashtanga/bikram). It did fairly well, It wasn't slippery, I didn't slide much and for most poses the thickness of the cushion was enough. It also wasn't too heavy so it's a good portable mat to have if you plan on bringing it with you for classes right before/after work. However after about half a year of heavy usage for me, the mat did start to slowly deteriorate and crumble at certain areas where the hands and feet are in contact usually (it might be from your nails grazing on it). Still usable but it just doesn't look very nice when small holes on the mat where pieces crumbled off starts to appear.

It's a really great looking mat though, I loved the subtle gray color and large peony pattern -it was very pleasant to practice yoga on. If you're planning to use it on a light to medium basis, then I think this would be a great mat for the price. However, if you're a regular yogi who will be relying on your mat a good few times a week, then I'd suggest a different mat to invest in since you spend so much of your time on it!

Excellent for begining yogis. I am a beginning yoga and as such, was unsure as to whether I would stick with the practice. I was going to order the least expensive Yoga Mat on the site, but then found, by the reviews of others, that a degree of "stickiness" is required to prevent slipping for an effective and safe Yoga Practice.

This mat is perfect for me. Absolutely no slipping as I struggle to adjust to unkown poses and crank my head around to see how to perform a pose, .very comfortable and cushy as well.

These guys make the best mats out there. My last one held up for 8 years (the thickest ones last even longer, I'm told), and this one is even better. While I was enjoying my old mat, they were clearly making product improvements...Amazon also saved me 10% to 15% versus other sites.

I bought this a month ago after lots of research between this and the jade mat. I ended up going with this and was prepared to wait for it to break in. The first few tries were rough, the mat was really slippery. I washed it with dish soap and sea salt, scrubbed it and hosed it off and left it to dry in the sun. That seemed it help a bit but it still was slippery. I usually bring a little towel to class to wipe my sweat so I used that to wipe my hands on I would just put it under my hands so they wouldn't slip. Today I took a class and it was better. A little slippery but much better then it was. I think it will only get better with time. Maybe I'll give another review in a few weeks! Definitely reccomend though. It's awesome. Really sturdy and comfy.

Cleaning:

Great product! Ordered from another source and purchased both the socks and Stick-e Gloves. I sweat and slide on my yoga mat-very frustrating. These really help keep me in place. I wear a size 7.5-8 shoe and found that the size small is better for me. The gloves only come in one size, but stretch to fit. The toe separation keeps the socks firmly on your feet as opposed to regular socks. I used to wear slipper socks with the rubbery patches on the bottom and they never stayed on my feet! The Stick-e Socks do cut in a little between the toes when you do certain poses such as lunges, but it’s not too bad and better than slipping. I would recommend this product for all of those who want to improve their yoga or pilates workout.

I use it for P90X and it works great. Wish I bought it BEFORE i bought a pilates mat which is very comfy but not buiolt for balance postures. This kit is perfect (if you don't want a bag or carry straps).

**** Good for starting yoga,
The advantage of this is the price. I have added yoga as part of the P90X fitness program and needed yoga blocks (I am not very flexible yet.) The yoga blocks are regular blocks, foam type, strong and work just fine. The mat is just a tad thinner than you will want if you are working on a wood or concrete floor, but I have interlocking rubber pads under the mat. It stays put and adds a little more cushioning and slip resistance. I have not used the belt or the DVD as the program I am using does not include the belt and the positions are demonstrated on the DVD's that come with the P90X.

****This is probably the least expensive yoga kit you can find on Amazon (at the moment) but the strap is a bit too short, and the mat not as thick as some alternatives; not that it's unusable. The foam blocks are fine and the kit comes with two (instead of one as most other kits are set up with.) Overall, I think it's a good starter kit. The only upgrade that would be truly worthwhile, in my opinion, is a longer strap. This said, the only thing that's essential in yoga practice is a mat and having blocks is a strap is a bit of a plus.

*****I am new to yoga. I started it because it was suggested by my MS doctor as a way to strengthen muscles and improve my balance. I'm certainly not a study in grace and doubt that I ever will be. For a little more than $ 20 you get everything you need for yoga. I was afraid that kit would be cheaper (compared to other brands) come, having already made, cheap and crappy, but I was pleasantly surprised when I opened the package. The mat is nice, thick and sticky enough, it seems The band set, and the blocks are nice and soft, but firm. The material that the bag is made like a bit thin, but still very useful, and hey all this for just over $ 20, the bag is really only an extra in my eyes. If you are looking for an inexpensive but highly functional kit to start looking for yoga, this kit.

UPDATE: More than a year later, this kit is still strong, no problems whatsoever. I use it regularly, and it holds very well. Very pleased with this purchase.

After practicing hatha yoga for nearly a year. I saw everyone had these towels, but do not appreciate how big they are! If you sweat a lot during your class, you can slip on the mat – this eliminates the hassle and you can practice without sweating problems. Another advantage is that the mat stays clean. Even if you have an old mat, you are better off extending the life of the mat with the purchase of a yogitoes your mat. Throw them in the laundry and it’s so easy. I sugggest NOT dry them well. I dried one of mine and it does not stay on the mat. The air dries very quickly, so there is no need for them in the dryer. She was also alone. They tend to bleed in the laundry for a few washings – and if you wear bright passage in the class and a lot of sweat, it can be on your clothes to get into teaching, especially with the red cloth. I had no problems with the green. There is NO downside of this product.

For bleeding in the laundry. There are many methods for dealing with them, like a tablespoon of white vinegar in the laundry, washing, wash twice in cold water before use, wash with similar colors only.

I researched for a while before buying this bag. My main concern was that the strap was not adjustable and so would be uncomfortable to carry, and that it was white and would stain easily - I found both to be unfounded. You can get an extra thick mat and check out a sticky mat since you are doing crunches and ab workouts.

It does help you not to slip. It is better for your yoga activity. A mat with little holes also recommended because it doesn't get sweaty when you work out.

Manduka Blackmat Pro Yoga Mat is recommend. This is quite extra thickness that will help protect your spine and joints when you are doing a lot of floor work. It is also an excellent mat for who tall.

Jade harmony professional is best natural yoga mat for regular vinyasa practice. Some reviewers said it was slippery and not durable, but for me it doesn'. I have had the opposite experience. It's slightly and given me more traction in those places. It's also great for traction.

Tip for cleaning, after every 3-4 practices, rinse both sides with water, then hang to dry. Not use chemicals. It's always clean and stay in great condition.
